Next Grook Presents that i’ve programmed at The Playhouse Bar:
Grook Presents returns to the bar for an international evening of music to scratch your beards to. Jazz, electronica, loops, circuit bending and drone will be offered up by some of Norwich’s finest sonic explorers with the evening headlined by two international adventurers of experimental music. ALL. THIS. FOR. FREE.
SATELITI (Italy)
Sounding somewhere between instrumental Portishead and the Silver Apples. No rules or structures, just two musicians facing each other: one squeezing a Fender Rhodes and a synth for an amniotic jazzy fluid, facing the other one whose drumming is in a restless constant motion.
CJ BOYD (USA)
Equal parts ambient and virtuosic, melancholic and playful, CJ Boyd’s bass playing melts glaciers, creating a sea of low, flowing rhythms, while also supplying melodies that soar over the ocean to melt the sun itself. Waves of bass loops are garnished with harmonica drones and constant improvisational exploration. This is deep-sea-diving for the hungry and alone.
THE RAW AND THE COOKED (Norwich)
The Raw and the Cooked are a Norwich-based trio of composers and improvisors. They exploit custom hardware & software, voices, texts, costumes, video and narratives in their atmospheric doom-laden performances, exploring the boundaries between “natural” and “crafted”, “found” and “produced”, “raw” and “cooked”. Improvising within strict pre-defined structures, the trio create carefully sculpted sound worlds in which they situate found texts, often touching on the darker side of life.
THE INEVITABLE ASTERISK (Norwich)
Forged in the bellies of discarded circuits, plastic skulls and the early hours of the morning, TIA is fuelled by tweaking and twisting noises and unsuspecting toy instruments, bathed in distortion and driven by 4 to the floor beats.
TRANSEPT DJ SET
Local architects of drone and disturbance dig around in their audio cellars and pull out an array of unusual tunes
